Ideas for flowers to plant now

Freed up a few big pots in my garden over the last few days. Pots are 40cm diameter and 60cm deep. They are positioned where they will get a decent amount of sun until late November. Any suggestions for something to plant in them that will flower for a decent amount of time now, or maybe even bloom through the winter?

They'll be binned in April once the pots go back to growing veg.

  • @Glasgowgardener777 Pansies and Violas but you are in Scotland? I am not sure there is much choice.
The Pansies may look a bit flat and the pot in need of some height.
Wallflowers are planted now and are taller but won't flower here until early spring.
You could put sedges or heuchera in to add interest but I think in Scotland it might be best to leave until spring. As you are a veg grower ornamental cabbages not for me though.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

    Bellis or pansies
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • To give pansies some contrast and height in pots you could grow parsley, mint or rosemary with them over winter.
    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.
