    I saw one similar to that, more greyish colouring, today. I think it was an elephant hawk moth caterpillar (no photos, I didn't have my phone handy). It was on one of my fuchsias.  Which is fine as long as it doesn't invite hundreds of its friends to dine :)
    Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
