Chilli Problem

Afternoon All,
Hope you’re all managing to cope with the hotter weather ok.
Am growing chilli peppers from the free Gardeners World seeds and some of the chillis are suffering with something, see pic. Anyone know what the problem is and what I can do to prevent it - and get the picture the right way up 😏?
Many thanks,
Andy

  • Have you looked closely where the stem meets the top of the fruit ?  Sometimes you may see a tiny hole where "something" has crept in and caused the rotting process.
  • Are they Hungarian hot wax? if so you pick them when they are yellow

Thanks  philippasmith2, have looked but can’t see any holes but I imagine they’re easy to miss. It does look as if something is having a good feed inside though and one or two have actually split open where the damage is so think you’re probably right.

Thanks  tigerburnie, I’ve not heard that before, judging by the pictures on the seed packet and the RHS website they are left on the plant until red, if indeed you want them that ripe. Would they still ripen to red if picked when yellow?
  • Whilst it is usually better to leave fruit on the plant until fully ripe, once it has started  to turn colour and begun the ripening process, you can pick and ripen indoors in a warm spot.  Much as you would do with toms, strawbs etc.
With the damaged ones even if they aren't fully ripe, I suppose you could pick off and clean the fruit up and then have a nibble - see if they may be worth using in something for your dinner ?  :)
