Any ideas what this is?

Does anyone know what this is? There are two of them in my gravel garden, they started sprouting a few months ago and I just left them as I thought they may produce flowers eventually, but nothing so far. Although they haven't flowered, I'm loathe to cut them down just yet as they look healthy (even if they are just weeds

). They are about 4ft tall now.

I know this is out of the box but it looks like nyger plants that we have growing near our bird feeders.

Would make sense if it was nyger plant as it is also near my bird feeders (which has this seed for the Goldfinches). However I've been looking up the nyger plant and it says that it has yellow flowers. So far no flowers on these plants so I'm still puzzled. Not sure whether to just take it out.

Do nyger leaves have the toothed leaves as in the OP’s photo? I can’t remember 🤔

Looks good for Niger (Guizotia species) to me. Any I get are late flowering and some never get there at all.

There's similarity to Goldenrod too - but those in gardens around here are in flower atm.

Any ideas what this is?
