Taxus baccata 'Fastigiata Robusta' - Irish yew tree

During lockdown, we bought a 2ft column tree after reading details about height - "grows to 6ft x 2ft in 10 years". Thought this was a small tree ideal for the height
It is now about 6 ft now.  I have since discovered that the ultimate height is 40 ft after 10 years! (there was no mention of ultimate height anywhere at the time!)
Question:  If we transferred it to a large pot, would it survive like an Acer tree in pots?
(Acer trees will grow within the size of pot and not get pot bound)

You can just cut/trim it back regularly. They grow away well from being pruned ,unlike many conifers.
Most info describes height/spreads in that way - ie height after five to ten years, but most trees/shrubs of that type keep growing - they don't just stop. The sizes will always  vary though, according to your conditions and climate, as will the rate of growth. Info's always quite approximate for those reasons.  :)

You can certainly keep them potted, but they'll need far more attention than in the ground. It may have quite a large root system by now, so that might need pruned too, assuming you can safely dig it up.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
