Hello @theno2soco. I think it could be rose rust but there is an extremely knowledgeable member on the forum. @Marlorena, who will be able to give you advice.

  • Hi @Ladybird4, yes I thought it may be but couldn't find anything about it in my Readers Digest book. Dozens of pages about rosa but in the disease/pest section I could find no trace so began to wonder if it had a 'name' other than rust. I have sprayed it with a general bug killer.

Yes it's rose rust, quite a bad attack... pick off affected leaves and bag them..

Bug killer's are rarely necessary for roses, they are not used in my garden.   A treatment for rust might be needed if it bothers the gardener, depends how extensive it is.. I  don't worry about a few leaves and just remove them, but if it persists, consider replacing the rose with a more disease resistant variety at some point.

    Thank you @Marlorena

I recently took over this garden and have little idea what is what so for the first year am just letting everything flower. Then try to find what they are and deal with them properly next season except for those that need pruning this year. I am amazed at what is popping up all through the year. Seems like somebody knew their gardening. Some twenty or more different things.
