Which weedkiller?

Hi All

I have an area between my garage and fence - about 8inches wide - that has allowed weeds to grow. What weedkiller or substance will kill the weeds and stop them regrowing? There are no plants close just a bit of grass that i dont mind losing if it affects it. There is a cordyline tree 5m away

Thanks

Glyphosate will work as long as the weeds are growing so would need to be used this month. It takes about 2 weeks to see the weeds starting to wither.
Once the stop growing it doesn't work too well.
Don't let the spray get on any leaves of plants/grass you want to keep.

It is absorbed only by the leaves - not the roots.
If it's the ordinary types of weeds, Roundup will work.
If it's ivy then something stronger is needed like Glyphosate 360.

If the weeds have dropped seeds then they will still germinate, so you'd need to repeat it in Spring once or twice maybe.

An alternative is Pathclear - that kills weeds and prevents seeds from germinating.

  • Thanks for that

  • Weedkiller will not stop weeds regrowing.
As long as there are weed seeds, and the conditions for them to grow, they will blow in on the wind or be dropped by birds, and start growing.

My suggestion would be to plant some low growing ground cover plants that you feel able to tolerate...
  • @mikedomone65VIa-6sIk I agree the best way to deal with weeds is to add plants.
Leave the weedkiller at the Garden Centre and help the environment.

  • As I understand the query this is a strip 8” wide and the length of a garage … situated between a garage wall and a boundary fence

I’m not sure which of the folk advocating planting in that area will volunteer to go and do the planting … I know I’m far too wide to fit in that space and I’m not aware of any of our members who are that slim! 🫤

That's exactly what I was wondering @Dovefromabove! I would use glyphosate. Unless @GardenerSuze is very slim and offering to help  :)

  • Ok I get what you are saying. I think getting weedkiller down there could be a problem too perhaps just leave it for the odd visiting insect?
I am tall and slim but not that slim you would need to call the Fire Brigade if I got stuck!
