HELP! Bird of Paradise appears to be dying after division

edited September 2023 in Plants
I separated the plant 5 days back as 4 were planted in the one pot and it was starting to look a little too ingrown and messy. I took a lot of care when dividing it, I detangled the roots for each one as much as possible and only made minor cuts when I had to. Almost a week later though and all are looking so rough, Leaves are curling, stalks are starting to feel a little soft and overall looks really unsettling. I'm a little new to the houseplant scene so any advice would be really appreciated on this one. I really don't want to lose it :'(

ps it actually looks way better in the pictures than irl, my fault for not taking the photos during the day in natural light but I'm desperate for answers

    Welcome to the forum.
They are all rather tall and if they sustained any root damage during the re-potting then the remaining roots may not have the capacity to support the top growth at present. Is one of the pots sitting in a bowl of water or is that a temporary arrangement to get the new compost damp enough?
Move the plants out of direct sunlight while they recover and you may have to remove any leaves that are too far gone.
  • @Ceres Thank you so much for the welcome. Your answer makes perfect sense now that you've said it. I think ultimately if this is the case I'm going to lose a lot of the long beautiful leaves from these ones which is really heartbreaking. And yeah, it's in a basin with a little diluted fertiliser just to get the soil damp. I also have the biggest one of the three (which I stupidly didn't take a full picture of) under its grow lamp atm, d'you think I should keep this going?

Just give them a little rest for a few days until they have got over the shock then move them back to their normal homes.
