Sawdust from sleeper wall. Insect or fungus?

For several months now we've had this small pile of what looks like sawdust coming out of one of the gaps in a low sleeper wall. I'd always assumed an insect was to blame, despite never seeing anything in that area, but on closer inspection there is what appears to be white mould/fungus on the opposite side of the sleeper, which can't be a coincidence.
However I can't see how fungus could deposit a nice neat pile of sawdust like that. Any suggestions as to what it might be?

The sawdust looks like woodworm. I think the fungus is secondary.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • Yes I’m thinking woodworm.  We had a stack of logs delivered for our wood burner and after a period of time we noticed piles of sawdust, then on one hot day we noticed loads of little black insects crawling about and it turned out to be infested with woodworm!
