Mowing with COPD

  • Thanks for all of your replies. A neighbour with a self propelled hayter let me try it.
It’s definitely easier than pushing my battery powered one although I get your points about manoeuvring it.

  • My aunt will be ninety in February and still does all her own gardening (except taking the green bin out due to the weight 🤣). Her lawn is very big and she now does it in shifts! She has a self propelled mower but she can still only manage shorter spells than she did when she was younger (80).
I know it doesn't 'seem right' going across but that could make it less effort and maybe do it over a couple of days too. Start at the top of the hill and work down... or find a skint 12 year old. 😉
    Good luck.

One thing I've found that makes a big difference to manoeuvrability is that a mower with a rear roller is much harder to manoeuvre than one with 4 wheels.

Our lawns are all on slopes, and OH mows across them, rather than up and down, bit too steep. Our is a self propelled petrol mower, so it doesn’t take too much effort as it drives itself. ( the biggest effort seems to be the pull string ignition!) We have several friends with COPD, and frankly, I’d suggest that you hire someone to cut the grass and save your energy for something more fun!
