Bay leaf tree - Should I somehow plant into soil in a pot or root control bag?

Hi

I was looking at planting 3 x ornamental bay leaf tree (nobilis) for my front garden planting strip 35cm x 345cm. As the planting strip is in the ground - for a 75l bay leaf tree would I also need to plant the pot or a root control bag to stop the roots getting out of control / too big? If yes, what would you recommend?
Thank you

That's a very narrow planting strip. Is there concrete, brick, tarmac or something similar on either side?

Hey Ceres, yes it's next to a small front garden brick wall and concreted slate paving. I've only ever lived in flats until now so was a bit nervous how roots could effect the foundations of the house in future decades

Should be ok ,doubt they’ll get that long
  • I wouldn’t be at all concerned about the roots in that spot 😊

What was the question ?  Looks like fait acompli to me.

Keep them to shape and the roots will grow in proportion.

  • Great, thanks all, will keep shaped and no longer concerned. Appreciate it.
