Is it normal for snails to climb conifers?

I just spotted a tiny one climbing one of my conifers.

The yellow striped  ones climb everything and anything in my garden.  I often find them up Apple trees.  Until the hedgehogs get ladders I guess its a protective mechanism.
  • Or maybe the birds are farming them?

No matter how tall or how rough the surface, and that includes pebble dash walls, snails will scale it and slugs won’t exactly be reticent either. And that’s why those Facebook posts advocating grit, crushed egg shells or coffee grounds as deterrents are bunkum.

Indeed @BenCotto. I think there's a lot of rubbish posted about what they won't cross or climb.
I'm sure people think I'm lying when I talk about the stuff slugs will climb or crawl on or across. Snails aren't that different in that regard either. They're regularly on walls here, which has crushed shell render,  when they aren't busy eating everything in sight...

They certainly climb up house walls. Probably lost. Keep going. We're bound to get to a road sometime navigation system.

Many snails and slugs feed on the algae that is found on the north side of many treetrunks … it is perfectly normal for them to climb.

Why do snails try to get out of wheelie bins when there's plenty to eat and they don't mind the dark?

  • Probably because they know they won't have long to live ?

Because there's no freshly planted seedlings in wheelie bins. 🐌🐌🐌🐌🌱

Ive seen snails on the outside of our first floor walls, and snail trails across windows.
