Help with a fig tree

Hello there,
Earlier this year, I purchased a small variety of fig, with an aim to growing it in a pot in the patio. When it initially came into leaf, it was quite vigorous, but it has looked altogether less impressive in recent weeks. I believe that figs are deciduous, but the leaves have looked less alive for a few weeks now. Does the plant need repotting, feeding or something else?
                                            Regards,
                                                 Harry

  • Definitely repotting and looks really dehydrated. Maybe plunge the pot in a bucket of water to rehydrate the root ball and then go a couple of sizes of pot up.

  • Thanks for the advice. I can't believe it's dehydrated, though, with all the rain we got this summer!

Sometimes the rain doesn't fall where we expect it to. Plants that are near walls are often gasping for water even after some decent rain because the wall or an overhang shields the pot from the weather.
  • As @Ceres said, don't depend on rain to water plants especially if they are in a potting mix that's really insubstantial like figs get sold in. That's why I said plunge it in a bucket to make sure the medium is saturated.
