Viola grew size of pansey

I've not seen this before from my tiny violas 2 have grown to the size of panseys. How did this happen?

Did you grow them from seed ?
I'm wondering if a few random pansy seeds found their way into the packet.

  • No they are home grown third generation they are the same colour as the violas my dark purple panseys are the other side of the garden.

It sounds as if the bees have helped you create your own version of Panolas … a Pansy x viola.

In that case, l am stumped  :)
The only other thing l can think of is some kind of genetic mutation. Hopefully someone on the forum will have the answer to this mystery.

Third generation.  From seed or from cuttings?  If seed, I'm not surprised at a  bit of reversion.
location: Surrey Hills, England, ex-woodland acidic sand.

Why not have called them a Vinsy?

    Who decides.

Whatever they are, @eyecatchercwd I think the contrast works well.
