Shrub to ID

Hello

We have a few of these but I haven't been able to identify them. The tiny flowers are now showing so I'm hoping the wise collective can help...

Thanks
No longer newish but can't think of a new name so will remain forever newish.  B)

    Or maybe viburnum tinus

Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
  • I think the viburnum could be it as the leaves are very glossy, possibly too glossy for a spirea
It will be lovely if those tiny flowers open up to proper flowers. I wasn't sure if they would stay tiny, but then patience is a virtue..... :)

If it is tinus then the little buds open to reveal little white flowers.
It could also be V. Eve Price - the flowers as much like tinus from those I've seen.
Lots of them around here in front gardens, some decimated by Viburnum beetle

Surely V.tinus is a spring flowerer?
How can you lie there and think of England

    Hmm - very true!

I'll have a look in gardens that have them when I go out with my pooch in a while

  • Guess I need to wait till the flowers open a bit more then.....
I have a couple of other plants to ID which are just foliage at the minute, albeit quite distinctive. Probably best to hang on for flowers before sharing their pics.....

As far as I know this is a viburnum from one of the gardens, V. tinus I think - a bit naughty I know, but it's a huge hedge about 70ft long edging the footpath.
It has recently been trimmed, but I did spot a few springs of flower buds.

I hadn't really thought about when the buds appear before so assumed it was later in the season, but then I realised it is later in the season 😁
