Help with my lilac

I don't know what is happening it's one of the plants my dad bought me on holiday years ago and scared I'm going to lose it. I've done nothing different to it and always get a fantastic display. But now it looks like it's dying one half looks fine other half changing colour

Are you sure it is a lilac?

Yes that’s definitely lilac . Mine went like that just before it fell down .How old is the tree? They don’t last forever .
  • Please don't say that 🤯 the trunk looks healthy. It's probably about 20 years old plus

I should have mentioned that after it fell down it sprouted up again . Perhaps if you cut it back it will grow good again .I don’t know ,I’m just guessing .

You could take a few cuttings. Not the best time of year but you may be lucky.
We all have plants that are sentimental but like us they don't go on forever.
I have cut them to the ground and they regrew so if the worst happens you could consider this. However the area that is yellow could be giving up.
