It is illegal for the charities to take furniture that doesn’t have the current fire regulation ls labelling.
Sadly some people try to offload dangerous furniture onto the charities rather than pay for it to be properly and safely disposed of.
I know. That is why so many people fly tip these days. Who can blame them. We couldn't get out of our access lane one morning. During the night someone had dropped off a double matress plus other items in the entrance and driven off. Thanks .
Also how many folk who are in need of charity shop furniture can afford to hire a van or pay someone to deliver it … so unless the charity has its own delivery service few folk can buy large items .., gone are the days when the police turned a blind eye to an estate car with a sofa sticking out of the back and a dining table and chairs on the roof rack like we used to do back in the day. Around here there are frequently newspaper reports of large fines, licence points etc for someone doing that sort of thing.

I have been told of people taking the labels off their new furniture and fixing them on the old three piece suite to try to get charity shops to take them 😡

It makes no sense to me for charity shops to be so picky as to what they'll accept but I suppose they know what sells or not.
@Joyce Goldenlily We also started out with lots of secondhand stuff when I was first married and very glad of it.
