Hi Barbara and welcome to the forum.

How is the health of the tree generally?
Do you see any sign of small bunches of dead or withered leaves anywhere?

  • Hello Pete.8  Thank you for your reply.  My tree has been declining for a few years and regularly has bunches of dead & withered leaves.  It's over 30 years old and not in good health.
  • I trim the bunches of dead & withered leaves off & dispose of the trimmings carefully.

I thought that may be the case.
I think your tree has Fire blight

It's not something I have any experience of I'm pleased to say, but there's some info from the RHS here that should help

Hope you can manage to save it, but it may be getting a little past its prime :)
