Poorly Fuchsia

IxkinIxkin Posts: 2
Good afternoon everyone. I love Fuchsias and have a small border with several different varieties, all of which were very healthy and producing lots of flowers until recently. My neighbour happened to mention that one of them looked a bit unwell and I was shocked to see the state of it when I looked closer. I live in Norfolk and wonder if anyone could identify the problem and suggest a solution please. I have added photo of the plant, I hope it helps
TIA

  • Just looking at your picture, I can't quite see but are the leaves curling up and drying?

By the distorted buds,  it could be Fuchsia Gall.   I would cut off all the diseased bit and bin it.

If it's gall, you're probably better cutting it right down including the healthy looking bits. With any luck, it will grow back healthy.
Don't touch the healthy plants with your secateurs until you have disinfected them.

Yes, it does look like gall mite damage.  Mine have been badly affected this yr.  I have cut them right to the ground.  There is a little regrowth already, but they won't do much now till next yr.  The mites can overwinter in the soil and last yr's mild temps probably allowed this.  Let's hope for a cold snap this winter.

Thank you for all your comments, I've cut the affected plant right back and will cross my fingers it will be ok next year.

Valerian gets them too. I do the same. Cut them down to the ground and dispose of clippings.
