Acoustic fencing

Hi
Has anyone installed acoustic garden fencing to reduce road noise? If so, was it effective? Was it worth the cost? What is the lie of your garden and how far from the road are you? Any info is really appreciated. Thank you so much.

    I recall that @Singing Gardener had an acoustic fence installed a couple of years ago.

    We do indeed have an acoustic fence which was installed at least a decade ago. It makes a massive difference to the level of noise in the garden which runs parallel to an unrestricted A road with only about 6 foot of verge between the edge of the garden and the road. It isn't a thing of great beauty though and at 8ft tall I think it makes the garden look smaller. We do also struggle to prevent gaps under the fence as the verge slopes steeply down to the road and the soil erodes away. Any gaps lessen the effectiveness of the fence.

    I did a lot of research into this recently and the outcome was unless you're right next to the road, like @Singing Gardener , they're next to useless.

    Don't forget that there are restrictions when it comes to erecting a fence next to a highway so you'll need to check planning. Fences of 8ft would almost definitely require some kind of permission from the local authority. (FYI Floating hedges have no planning restrictions). 

    In terms of noise cancelling properties brick walls come top of the pile. 

    In my situation I opted for a 1.95m tongue and groove panel fence. Noise mitigation is minimal because I'm a good 15m from the road but I guess it looks nice. Next on my list is a floating hedge which will hopefully muffle the noise a bit more.
