Soil for wild flowers

How can I change the quality of my soil as it is to good for wild flowers. They bolt and grow tall with very few flowers.

    Welcome to the forum.
This is not something I have any experience of as I am gardening on a brown field site and have the opposite problem but I found this online: Nutrient levels can be dropped over time by  continuously cutting and removing vegetation. But for the very best results when establishing wildflowers, you have to take the top layer of soil off before you attempt to plant wildflower seeds. Either plant into the subsoil, or import some low-nutrient soil from a reliable source. https://www.turfonline.co.uk/blog/what-best-soil-growing-wildflowers/
Are you growing random wildflowers or species that are common in your area?

  • I have heard of folk adding sub soil into beds to reduce the nutrients, can't say that I have tried it though.
I find Flanders Poppies will grow anywhere and are still giving us a nice display, though most are going over. Perennials like Ox eyed daisies and foxgloves will grow anywhere too

If you remove the top soil, you will reduce the fertility, just growing the plants in the sub soil.
How can you lie there and think of England
