Some of the apples on my apple tree are black at the bottom. I'm guessing this is black rot.
Is there an easy way to treat this and does it mean that I won't be able to eat any of this year's apples?

Brown rot seems to be the thing here.
Is there any chance that you could post a photo?
In the meantime, have a look here, and hopefully my bumping up this thread might help with getting more information from someone who knows far more than l do

Unfortunately I wasn't able to add a photo. Yes I am in the UK. Can't remember which website I read about black rot on
