We moved in here in 2011 ish 🤔 A couple of years previously Ivy had been stripped from the walls .., we were advised by builders not to try to remove the adventitious roots as we would probably damage the surface of the bricks, so we left them for the weather to deal with … it appears to be a slow process 🤣
Do the forum’s rose specialists think that a pretty vigorous bush type rose would work there? @Nollie@Marlorena et al?

Ooo would love a rose bush?? also after treating the ivy stump with SBK how long until I can plant in the same area?
If I just used normal weed killer and drilled that in would I be able to re plant there sooner than 6weeks? I appreciate then more chance ivy will come back as not so effective
@Bramble55 I wouldn't think about planting for now. Gardening is a 'long game' if you want to get things right, it also takes alot of patience. You could still be tackling the Ivy this time next year whatever you choose to do. Yes get lots of ideas, start a gardening note book and write down some of the plants you like. Act too soon and you may find a clash that you don't like with another plant or part of the year when the border looks dreadful. You may discover a plant you like even more than the one you have planted!
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
Also … if you want a rose, they’re much less expensive bought as a ‘bare root’ in the winter … buy from a reputable supplier such as Classic Roses, David Austin and Trevor White rather than a garden centre … you’ll have a better choice and a money back guarantee.
