Nerine Lilies

Lizzie27Lizzie27 Posts: 12,494
I've got two pots of nerine lilies that I'm planning to plant into a  west facing trough on my south facing terrace. The soil's most probably exhausted after having bamboo in it for years so I think it needs either replacing or replenishing.

It puzzles me however that the advice varies from sandy, free draining soil in one of my gardening books whilst the RHS contradicts itself by advising humus rich soil in one sentence
and not rich soil in another!  Which is correct?  Advice most welcome please.

  • Our nerines are in the ground in clay soil and every year they produce more. I know this isn't the same as in a trough but for us they haven't minded being in a real heavy clay.

Thanks @bertrand-mabel. Mine were originally in a clay soil but had to be moved when the wisteria above got bigger and shaded them out.
