Foxgloves

I planted these Foxgloves as plug plants about two months ago, but some of them have started to flower already. Being biennial I thought they wouldnt flower until next year?

Plants don't read the books, but some certainly have a mind of their own.

A lot of plants held to be biennial are often nothing of the kind. These days I take it as a very loose term.

    Bonus!
I have a rhododendron in flower now. As @punkdoc says they don't read the books.

It won't be a problem, if that's what's worrying you @The_Lazy_Gardener. It happens now and again, but it's good that they've come on so well.
You'll get the others next year.
I have a native rowan producing some flowers just now. Same last year. The berries are almost all gone on it, courtesy of the blackbirds and starlings  :)

I forgot about my Rowan @Fairygirl. I noticed flowers and half eaten berries on the same tree.

I have a couple in flower now too. They aren't really mature plants yet and I'm sure they'll flower again next year. Same thing happened last year. Also this year there were a few that flowered again having already flowered last year.

    Thanks for all your help.
    Just hope they flower again.

Not only will they flower next year,  if you leave the heads on and the seeds to dry out,  you’ll get seedlings which will flower the following year.  Very useful plants.

  • My foxgloves flowered earlier this year and I sowed the resulting seeds, and one has already flowered, with another on the way.
