Brighamia Insignis

I have a Brighamia Insignis that is growing what looks like a pup from the bulbous bottom part of the plant. Is this usual? I'm used to some house plants producing pups as a way of reproduction but Brighamia Insignis only grows from seed from what I know. Is this just a side shoot that will grow out?

I've come across double-stemmed Brighamia insignis plants in the past at the nursery I worked at in the 80's .
Admittedly fairly unusual , but not unique .
