Daffodil bulbs.

I've been given a bucket of daffodil bulbs and I would like to plant them as I will forget I have them and Mellors will huff.
Can I put them in now?
I remember my uncle bringing me daffs and I was out like an eejit planting, in the dark at four o'clock in the afternoon, in November. I don't fancy that.
I'll be planting in fairly inhospitable bits of lawn so what prep do I need to do apart from digging holes?

In what way is the lawn inhospitable @plant pauper ?

I'm not sure yet but there used to be a very old house built on that bit and I suspect there may be remnants. When I removed the pampas grass, which was over a bit, I found bits of blue painted wall.
Obviously remove any bits of stone wall but I will probably need to amend the actual soil so what should I put in? I have homemade compost but should I put in bonemeal, do they need watered in... basic learner stuff. I usually just put bulbs in containers.

The only thing I’d worry about is if it’s a dry spot. IME all but the most fancy daffs will grow almost anywhere as long as they don’t dry out in the summer, and they’re planted nice and deep. A bit of bonemeal might help … otherwise some Fish, Blood & Bone watered in after flowering is all they should need.
Planting now will be fine 😊

Dry spot. Oh you are funny @Dovefromabove! 🤣
Thank you. Looks like I'll be digging holes today then. Deep ones.

Yes - they'll be fine if the soil's viable when you make the hole.
You might lose a few, I usually do over winter, although I don't have any in the grass. Hard to avoid one or two rotting.  ;)

I suspected that might be the case 😉

My NDN (Surrey boy) couldn't understand why Mellors didn't get the grass cut on occasion. Now NDN has moved here full time he's starting to understand. Yesterday he got the lawnmower out because it seemed ok. Ten minutes later he looked like a wet T shirt competition. By the time he put the mower away in disgust the sun was out and his T shirt was steaming! 🤣
Mellors (also a Surrey boy) has lived here ages and ALWAYS carries at least one change of clothes in the car. I think the only person who gets as much rain is @Hostafan1.
