what's eating my Edgeworthia

It was fine two days ago, now looks like lace.   No slugs or snails around. Checked soil - all clean.  No visible insects or aphids etc.     We don't have leafcutter bees here do we?

@Casey13 I guess you have considered vine weevil? I have no idea if they go for Edgeworthia?
Not a commonly grown shrub as beautiful as it is but I think they will have a go at most things. Welcome.

That looks more like leaf cutter bees to me than anything else, especially up near the top of the pic, although some of it also looks like slugs.
Notches are far too big for vine weevil.

Perhaps @wild edges will be able to ID and/or confirm.

I had leaf cutter bees in my old garden earlier this year. Perhaps a good year for them?

We don't get them here @GardenerSuze, so it's hard for me to determine  :)

One thing I am not sure of is that the holes in your Edgeworthia don't seem very even in size. A leaf cutter bee makes almost a full circle shape and each hole is very much the same.

Hmm you say there’s no slugs or snails around … that’s what you think, but they hide and come out when you’re not looking 🤨

Hi DfA    They would have to be very picky slugs as the edgeworthia was right next to a hosta which was unscathed :-)

😂 they obviously prefer the flavour of edgeworthia … 🤔 wonder what it tastes like …
