Wasps on Eleagnus

Does anyone else have a lot of wasps on Eleagnus? It's not in flower at the moment but they keep coming and going between the branches and there's a lot of them, we have an Eleagnus hedge.

We managed to cut the hedge (carefully!) I'm confident there's no nest, we can see in but they seem to be attracted to something. I watched a couple yesterday and they go inside and rest even on bare branches.

No - never particularly noticed them on mine, but there are plenty around.
They may well have had a nest down at the bottom somewhere - or in underneath it. I had a nest under the Osmanthus I have, as it's in a raised bed and they could access it from the other side, as the bed forms part of the boundary fence   :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Our neighbours have a eleagnus hedge and for the past few weeks it has been buzzing, with thousands, of hoverflies. It does have very tiny flowers at the moment though (it's the variagated green and gold form) but does attract a lot of insects even when it's not flowering.
  • I have a whole colony of wasps on the west side of my garden they seem to stay on that one side only although my garden is small. They seem attracted to my acer and the ginger plant.
