Prunus incisa "Kojo no Mai" wound, infection?

I bought this little shrub from the "reduced" corner at the GC. It had signs that a few dead stems had been removed, and I noticed the stem has a bit of a wound in it. Do you reckon this shrub is going to decline or recover, and would you have any concerns planting it near other cherry species?

  • Such a big wound would worry me for a cultivar that is as slow growing as them...I would keep it in a pot to monitor for the next few months as planting it in the ground it may get further damage by any visiting wildlife.

Thanks George. By the way the whole plant looks like this:

  • It's a good size...so hopefully it can keep going and thickening the trunk. I have one for years in a pot and it's very happy...probably will plant it in the ground in my next garden.
