Deadheading Thunbergia Alata Black Eyed Susan

harmonyharmony Posts: 403
Hi, do you deadhead your Thunbergia Alata or leave it to do it's own thing. Some say that it doesn't need deadheading. I've got a couple of  seed heads developing and I'm wondering if I should leave them. It's my first time growing them, I have 3 growing in a pot and 3 in the garden and the garden ones look much healthier. I think the pot might have been too small for 3 plants. I have been feeding the pot grown ones with Tomorite every few weeks.

  • Nothing to stop you deadheading if you want but allowing some of the seed heads to develop for saving the seeds is a good idea.
I think you are correct about the pot ones in relation to those in the ground.  They are quite vigorous when happy and make very attractive plants.
I don't particularly recall feeding mine when I last grew them but it doesn't seem to have done yours much harm. Enjoy the lovely flowers  :)

One is enough even for a large container. My single one has ranged across a single fence panel and has moved over and through the fence into next door's garden. They're not gardeners so I doubt they're worried.
    In London. Keen but lazy.
