Ficus benjamina leaf disease - ?

Could anyone help me identify the issue with my weeping fig? There is a smattering of these leaves amongst the healthier ones.. thank you in advance.

It could just be natural aging of leaves on an evergreen plant which sheds a few leaves all year rather than all of them at once like a deciduous plant.

Just to be sure, do you feed it at all and, if it is somewhere dry, do you mist it?   They can be susceptible to red spider mite if the atmosphere is too dry.

I put mine outside for the summer once night time temperatures are reliably at 10C and it then benefits from any rain and an occasional shower from the hose when watering.  It's on a north facing terrace so gets no direct sun except very late in the evening around the summer solstice.

For the cooler months it comes inside to an east or west facing window and goes in the shower once a month to remove house dust from the leaves.  I've had it 40 years now and it's happy.

  • Thank you for your comment and experience, Obelixx! I do not mist but am now going to start.

The black spots catch my eye. I had thrips for the first time this year and black dots accompanied that. Accompanied by desiccated patches. Possibly worth checking with an eye glass... If its thrips, you want to curtail the spread.

I have never knowingly met a thrip on any plant but they're certainly worth looking for, tho I don't think ficus benjamina are a usual host.  Lots of useful info here -

Red spider mite ?  Can you see any fine white ‘wisps’ on the leaves of between leaves and stem ?
