What’s eating my Victorias?

Can you tell me what’s eating my plums? This carapace/shell is left on the outside of the plum though there’s nothing left in it.

Though on cutting through, maybe it’s just on the surface. Still intrigued.

    Wasp damage.

Thanks fidgetbones - do wasps leave their outer shells? That’s what’s confusing me. It’s like a exo-skeleton fixed to the plum skin.

It looks like the larval skin of a ladybird, but never seen one on a plum!
Yorkshire, ex Italy and North East coast. Growing too old for it!

We found it on our plums every year when I was a girl many years ago . My mother said it was plum skin all chewed up and rolled up by a wasp/ bee/ critter ,because they only suck the juice and don’t eat the skin .
  • Plum moth damage. This year we thankfully had no problems.

Plum moths larvae leave a lot of black frass around the stone, and if you get to it before the larve has left, pink wigglers.

I think I maybe have a combination of visitors there: the puzzling ones do look like they might be ladybird skins, while some have the frass or general yuk that suggest plum moths. I think I need to get a magnifying glass out.
