Problem grass

Hi everyone. I have a section of grass that I have an issue with. Not what is happening or how I can sort it. Can anyone help please? I have attached a picture as it is easier than trying to explain

Are your mower blades sharp enough to cut cleanly? That looks like it's been torn instead.
Having said that, there's a small patch of grass in my lawn that goes like that sometimes, which I think is a different type of grass that's seeded in and is tougher than the rest. I have been known to take the shears to it but generally I just leave it.

  • Hi Jenny

The blades seem to be OK, all the other grass has cut well. This is just a very small patch, which I've never seen before, in what is a fairly big lawn.

It is probably as you say, a different type of grass.

Thank you for coming back to me 😊

Be thankful it's only little grass. I had a flax which grew to over ten feet and it did that. I can see why it was used for rope!

To my eye, your sample apears hollow, chive-like.
location: Surrey Hills, England, ex-woodland acidic sand.
