Plum moth!

We planted a Victoria plum tree 20 years ago. The first few years we had a lovely edible crop, but over the years the plums have been plagued by plum moth grubs, getting worse each year, despite pheromone traps. This year we haven’t had a single edible plum. We are seriously considering removing the tree. Does anyone have a tried and tested solution please? Thank you.

The earlier ripening ones are worst affected.  Plums that ripen later (on the same tree)are usually OK. This year seems particularly bad.
  • I used pheromone traps this year and although it caught a lot, I don't know what it caught a lot of! My tree surgeon was round the other day and said there were plum moths in there so it wasn't a complete waste of time and money. The one thing I did this year is get rid of any plums that had clearly been gotten to early on and there was A LOT of them. No point in the tree putting energy into growing fruit I'm just going to throw away. Normally it takes weeks to find a ripe plum that doesn't have something wriggling in it but having already dispatched of anything that's been burrowed into, all of the plums I've picked so far have been maggot free. I wouldn't like to say there isn't some in there somewhere but I haven't had the daily frustration of finding the damned things in every single plum.
