Tree Pruning Advice

Should I prune this Norway maple tree to help it bush out more? Would like to try and close the gap between the growth sections.

    As a general rule summer pruning (ie now) restricts growth,  whereas winter pruning stimulates it. So it depends on what you want to achieve in the long term.  Your final desired shape and structure may take several seasons to achieve.

    Thanks. Would you just snip the top branches in winter?

    The leading bud always grows stronger,  so yes if you want to stimulate lower buds to come and it to thicken up.
