Plant ids of plug plants

I am a complete novice and have just purchased 12 pairs of perennial flower plugs on line. They arrived fine but with no individual ids. I have had them in pots for a day and will be planting in beds in the next week. However I would like to know what each plant i so can plan correctly.

I have attached an image of each numbered and the plant list lettered. I would be grateful for any of these to be matched up. Any extra images required,  please tell me and I will try to get them.

A. Achillea
B. Delphinium
C. Digitalis
D. Coreopsis
E. Echinacea white
F. Gailliarda
G. Geum
H. Echinacea pink
I. Alchemilla
J. Aquilegia
K. Verbena

    In my opinion,  :)

    1 = Aquilegia
    3= Verbena
    5=Achillea
    8= Geum
    9= Achemilla
    10= Rudbeckia
    12=Digitalis

    2 is possibly the Rudbeckia and 4 the Echinacea

    My best guesses below. Some of it is process of elimination so take with a big pinch of salt.

    1. J. Aquilegia
    2. F. Gailliarda
    3. K. Verbena
    4. E or H. Echinacea (my guess is this is the white one, see 10 below)
    5. A. Achillea
    6. L. Rudbeckia
    7. D. Coreopsis
    8. G. Geum
    9. I. Alchemilla
    10. E or H. Echinacea (my guess is pink going solely by the red-ish leaf stalks)
    11. B. Delphinium
    12. C. Digitalis

    I'm surprised they weren't labelled, or packaged in order (A to L) in a plug tray/container.

    I have a Potentilla with small red flowers looking very much like 9. The new leaves in the middle are very similar.

  • I agree with @JennyJ - a reputable supplier should be capable of labelling the plants they sell - on line or otherwise.
    Not much help ID wise tho you have received several good possibles.  If you have the time to post your photos to the supplier , I'd be tempted to ask them to ID them for you.  It might prove to be a bit of a wake up call to them to improve their service if nothing else  :)
  • You made me go back and look at the packaging. I did not notice this when unpacking the two 12 plug packages but with light shining through the empty plastic, I can see the letters on the side of each plug container.

    So not their fault. If I had noticed it, and taken into account the label with the plant types on one side of the packaging, I would have removed them one by one and labelled them. In my defence, it must have been less clear with the plants in place. I will look at the guesses by JennyJ and AnniD, plus a few pictures on the web, and label accordingly. My PlantNet identification app was very little help so thanks for the pointers.

    It could have been clearer, but I suppose it's cheaper to do it that way than to label the plants or put more visible stickers on the plastic container. It would be easy to miss that when you're in a rush to get our new plants unpacked and potted up.
    What I would do is grow them on, potting on into bigger pots as necessary, until they come into flower or otherwise become easier to ID. In any case I think they're too small for planting out before next spring at the earliest.

  • Oh, ok. Thanks for that. So keep them in pots until next spring? Alright, I will do that. I'm gonna need a bigger pot!!! Most are in "sapling" pots at the moment so I guess they will need larger ones if waiting until Spring.

    I twigged at @JennyJ's 16.06 post. It has happened to me before. Maybe even more than once! 🤓
  • @mark.wingfield  Hope you manage to work out the ID's of your plugs.  Looking at the pics, I'm not sure that I would have spotted that either .  At least one good thing is that if you buy from that supplier again, you'll know where the ID is hidden - good luck with growing them on :)
