Thank you @AnniD for your suggestion. What is Susan Williams-Ellis like?
Thank you @Marlorena - I may end up with Desdemona. I used to have one but got rid of it because it was too vigorous and I could not keep up with deadheading. A serious crime, I know. I can imagine horrified look on many rose lovers’ faces 😱. Claire Austin also met the same fate…
'Sally Holmes' is a low thorn rose, almost thornless but not quite.. individual flowers on this rose last a very long time, over a week, some I marked up to 12 days.. .. 'Kew Gardens' is thornless..
These are totally different types of roses to Winchester Cathedral and others mentioned..
When I had Susan W-E, I found the blooms fell apart rather quickly.. but the scent is delicious.. I came to the conclusion a single plant of that will not make a huge impact, and I would now want to plant in a group of 3.. but that's expensive..
In addition to what @Marlorena said regarding SWE, I find that it has a very poor second flush. However, when it blooms the flowers are the pure white they are supposed to be. Regarding Desdemona, the interval between the flushes are quite short; the second flush is almost over here.
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
