Scarification Vs Stones

Hi All,
Will surface stones damage a motor scarifier? Or is there another power tool to remove stones? I've seen small tractor mower tools. I don't have a tractor and no dig seems to be the thing, so I would think twice before breaking up the soil to remove stones.

Full story: I seeded a large new lawn but bindweed and thistle dominated from the donated soil. I've decided to spray an area off and start again. I want to multi-scarify after weed killer to remove what's left. The problem is there are stones of various sizes in the soil. Hence my question above. Thanks.

PS. I am starting again on the lawn because paddock grass seed was used instead of dwarf ryegrass. Not just a weed problem. No good for croquet.  :)
