potato id - just from description!

Hi all, a random potato plant came up on my allotment, left over from a previous owner. It had lilac flowers, and when I dug it up there was only a small collection of tubers, (enough for two for supper)  but they were completely delicious. They were a bit knobbly, but not noticeably pink in skin colour (I initially wondered if they were Pink Fir), creamy white flesh, not at all floury.  Does anyone have any idea what it might be so I can plant again next year?  I think the only clue is the pale purple flower and I'm not sure how many varieties have this.  Thanks.

Sorry but without a picture of the tuber, intact and cut open this is near impossible.  Even then there are so many cultivars it would only be a guess.

  • Is there any chance a fellow allotment holder might have known the previous owner and could shed some light?

Does your allotment have a shop or organised buying scheme? Ours offers potato tubers that they buy in bulk and the list of varieties isn't that long. It might be they were bought from this list as they are often chosen varieties which do well in the location.

If it wasn't pink but a bit knobbly then Anya may be a possibility. It's very commonly grown and a cross with a pink fir I believe.
  • Thanks, we don't have anything like a shop, it's a tiny allotment space with only 8 people but I will see if anyone knows who was on that plot before. I'm sorry I didn't realise it was so difficult as I had never seen purple flowers before. Having said that @thevictorian Anya is definitely a possibility looking at the details online.  Same shape, size, time of harvesting, reports on flavour. If it has purple flowers (anyone?!) I am on to a winner.  Many thanks to all. Have a good weekend!
