Pale rose leaves and small red dots

Hi there, one of my roses seems to have pale leaves, does anyone know what this could be and how I fix it? Or if it is normal?

There also seems to be small red dots on here, thank you

Have you fed your rose? Have you watered it? If the soil is too dry it won't be able to absorb the food. Is your soil very alkaline? It may need some sequestered iron.

It's difficult to see where it's planted - does it have plenty of space?
If you could post a pic of the whole plant showing where it's planted that may help with other ideas.

Thank you for your reply. I have been feeding it yes, I’ve added a bit more after you have said also and watered it in. I have also been watering it once a week with 10 litres, it is about a year old. I’m not sure about the soil being alkaline, I’ll get a testing kit and test parts of it. Thank you for the advice

It should have a good amount of space, it is planted next to my house, it doesn’t have any other plants anywhere near it and it has sun pretty much all day. There is no foundation etc as it is an old house as well so it’s root system should be free to expand any which way it likes

It looks OK in the above photo, but I don't think it would like having the paving stones quite so close. It would like more earth around and a mulch. You can't feed it and water it properly in such small a space.

There's not enough open ground around it to get enough natural nutrients and possibly water.
I imagine it should be OK so long as it's fed regularly during the growing season.
There's no open ground so there will be very little activity from bacteria and fungi in the soil around it to break down organic matter and turn it into fertilizer.
Seaweed extract about once every 2-3 weeks will provide all the micronutrients it will need and a rose fertilizer applied as per the instructions should keep it in good health.

  • Thank you very much both for the comments, I can perhaps remove some more of the paving stones then as well as doing what you have recommended. I really appreciate it
