Ice cubes

I've only just noticed one trick the OH does with herbs.  She cuts them up and freezes them in ice cubes until required.  That way we have fresh herbs from our garden all year round!

  • A good technique with many herbs.  If you like parsley, you can do the same but with melted butter and into the freezer.  Handy to mix with mashed potatoes, etc. :)

I have just frozen about 30 pods of basil.  Chopped and put into silicone tiny cake moulds.  Freeze then pop out and put into a plastic bag.  I do the same with mint and parsley.  I do the same @philippasmith2 and add garlic - all ready for garlic bread or grilled mussels half shell.

I chop chillies straight into ice cube trays.   Works better for me than freezing them whole.   Handy for adding to all sorts of dishes.

I tend to use herbs to flavour oils and make pesto with basil and sometimes I remember to make garlic/herb butter.  This year I'm going to attempt mint jelly as I can't buy it here and we like it with lamb.
