Helenium 'Moerheim Beauty‘ seeds?

I have been looking for the seeds of helenium 'Moerheim Beauty‘ but haven’t found any but I have bought 2 smallish plants at a plant fair this weekend.

Looking on the rhs web site it just says divide or take basal cuttings. So does that mean I can’t collect the seeds when they finish flowering? Are the seeds not useable for some reason? Are they sterile?

I suppose I’ll need to let them grow for a couple of years & bulk up before I can take cuttings (I’ll need instructions on how to do that  it just says to do it in spring) each plant only has 4 flower/stems coming out of the pot.

I have seen seeds for sale on ebay from what appears to be a Uk supplier but l always thought that it was sterile as far as seeds were concerned. I stand to be corrected though  :)

If you wanted to try growing Heleniums from seed while waiting for your new purchases to bulk up, you could try Chiltern aeeds which are a reputable supplier (not Moerheim Beauty though).

Named cultivars don't come true from seed hence why you can't find any

Division or cuttings is the way to go with it, but not with a young plant, which is what you seem to have @*Astrantia*.  They'll grow quite big within a year or two once planted.
As long as you can keep the slugs away.... ;)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Oh no!  Don’t mention the slugs 😱
