Privet Disease

Can anyone help with what is happening to our privet hedge.  its very well established but over the last couple of weeks it has started to turn silvery brown on just the upper of the leaf.... this has started from the bottom of the hedge and moving up... Can anyone help with what this is and how we should treat this?

The damage looks very much like it may be caused by spider mites.
That said, I've not previously heard of a privet being infested with them, but worth checking.
They're almost invisible to see without a magnifying glass, so armed with a magnifier, have a look on the underside of the affected leaves and see if you can see any - they are very small.
