Do you blanche runner beans before freezing?

Ive just picked a load of runner beans before they get stringy. Ive seen people say you dont have to blanche before freezing. Is this the case?
Thanks

I don’t blanch them … I just don’t have the time … they eat perfectly well. Many years ago when I was a WI member and home freezing was a fairly new thing we did a comparison … we decided there was little if any difference between the blanched and unblanched ones.

Ive tried both ways,  I just dont like them when they’ve been frozen,  I sowed very few runners this year so we will just eat them fresh,  I have grown many more French Beans because they  taste the same after being the freezer.

I make bean soup with the glut. It pleases me.

  • I pretty much only grow them for dried bean these days - delicious, and sees us right through the winter ...
