'Giant' Verbena Lollipop!

Hi, looking for some guidance. I bought 12 Verbena Lollipops to replant our garden 36 months ago. Fine the first year but they are now enormous - at least 1.2m. Is this normal? I was expecting them to stay the 60cm high that they are supposed to be. Thanks

I bought 3 Verbena Lollipops 2 years ago. They died in the winter but have seeded themselves. They haven't come true but have reverted to the tall Verbena Bonariensis.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • This sounds like a distinct possibility. I need to get my planting plan out. How come they revert, will all self seeded do that?

I planted a load of Lollipop too three years ago and none of the verbena is now
    less than five ft tall.
