Beetroots now

I've heard quite a few people saying they intend to start some beetroots off from seed into containers? Is that really doable before any frost can hinder progress? Anyone tried that?

Can I sow beetroot in August?
With the added cover and protection, you can sow from the beginning of March to the end of August. You can even leave roots to overwinter, providing you with a ready supply of fresh beetroot throughout November, December, and January.

To expand on @bédé ‘s post above …  I would not recommend leaving beetroot in the ground over winter in most parts of the UK  … however with the protection of a polytunnel, or even a blanket of thick straw under fleece or  netting, it is possible in all but the hardest of UK winters.

Bédé… to avoid falling foul of copyright laws it is best to either credit the site from which you’ve quoted or provide a link … saying it’s from Google isn’t sufficient as Google is a search engine, not a publication or website.
