@NormandyLiz Sorry to hear about your predicament with your Tamron macro lens.
I got mine back in 2009, in Pentax mount, so that means I've used it regularly for 14 years, and it's still working perfectly. It's consistently given high praise in the reviews, and considered on a par with the "brand-mark" similar macro lenses such as the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM, etc.
You don't say if you mostly use(d) it in autofocus or manual mode. When shooting macro I use manual mode 99% of the time. Most of the macro photos on my photo site were taken with the Tamron.
Is your Tamron similar to this? i.e. does it have AF and M positions?
Found this on a Pentax forum:
It is possible to leave the lens on the
MF position at all times, in which case the focus ring will rotate with
AF (like on most lenses). Given that Tamron took the time to implement a
clutch, however, we cannot recommend leaving the lens in the MF
position while using AF, since this could hypothetically stress the AF
mechanism.
Maybe that is the cause of your mis-functioning?
Since you live in France you could search Le Bon Coin for a 2nd-hand lens. I did it and found this:
Vds objectif TAMRON- SP90-f :2.8 – macro 1:
Monture canon EF - Stabilisé.
Complet, dans sa boite d’origine, avec ses bouchons et son pare soleil .
Très bon état - Il a été très peu utilisé – lentilles impeccables. 255 €
That sounds just what you want. Actually this search on Le Bon Coin site "Tamron macro 90mm monture Canon" returned no less than 14 offers! You'll have to check exact compatibility with your Canon camera model.
Thanks for taking the time for such a lengthy reply @Papi Jo. The AF/MF function on my Tamron 90mm is different to that, you slide the front of the lens back or forwards.
I don't think it is just a focus issue but a problem with the connections. It will now no longer even register the aperture or light. It is, in summary, stuffed.
I buy a lot of bits and pieces on Le Bon Coin (similar to Gumtree for UK readers) but would not buy a lens there, you have no guarantee of what you are buying or recourse if it's faulty, etc. I did get an almost new carbon fibre tripod there last year for 40 Euros but that's less of a risk. I prefer to pay a little more for a specialist to check it.
The Tamron is ordered from MPB - 'excellent' condition so I'm confident it'll be fine. And I've ordered a bit of sunshine for next week too!

Wow! That image is absolutely stunning @Sheps.
I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful
