Tree on roof

Not exactly a gardening problem!  With the heavy rains and winds a chunk of my roof cornice (rendering above the windows and beneath the roof line of a butterfly roof. broke away  and apart from the damage to the plants at the front I discovered a small tree about a metre high growing on the roof. Sawing it down is OK but  I need to kill it without doing damage to the tiles so possible not remove the roots. It needs to be done with as little disturbance as possible but has to be effective it it will start all over again. Probably be working from a ladder so not much room to manouvre either. Any ideas ?

It's probably a buddlea . You need to get rid of it whatever it is

Or a sycamore. Our gutters were full of sycamore seedlings this summer.
Yes, we've had loads of sycamore seedlings everywhere. But a neighbour 2 doors away had a buddleia on his flat roof, for weeks. They are also a nuisance. But the sycamores are worse. Such fast growing, and with roots longer than the tree is high.

So if it's sycamore, beware of the roots.
