Blueberry harvesting

When I pick my blueberries they often have a “beard “ with a tiny stalk where the flower would have been.
I’m sure they are harmless but not a very pleasant texture in my mouth if I eat them. Washing them sometimes removes them but not all. This is very labour intensive too.
Any idea why they are still present when the blueberry appears ripe?
Thanks

Just grin and bear it and pick them off... More would drop off if you leave them longer, but the Blackbirds will likely eat them first...
Yorkshire, ex Italy and North East coast. Growing too old for it!
